Thirsty Thursday: Grand Teton’s Coming Home Holiday Ale & Giveaway
Thirsty Thursday returns this week with the perfect beer to satisfy your palate and keep you warm during the chilly holiday season…Grand Teton Brewing Company’s 2011 Coming Home Ale. From our favorite brewery in the land of potatoes and hops, this Tripel Belgian-Style Golden Ale is another great addition to Grand Teton’s Cellar Reserve Series of beers. Balanced in its expression of yeast and spice, the beer’s flavors are soft and subtle along with the hidden warmth of 9% alcohol. The Coming Home Holiday Ale is great on it’s own or, as Grand Teton suggests, with Cajun crab cakes, your favorite holiday game bird, a crème brulee or even an apricot-amaretto tart.
Here is my complete review:
Grand Teton Brewing Co. 2011 Coming Home Ale (9% alc)
Pours with a slightly sudsy minimal head and a beautiful hazy burnt yellow/orange color like a warm sunset. The Belgian yeasty nose expresses notes of bubble gum and cloves, leading to a soft round feel on the palate which is somewhat sweet with a subtle peppery spice. The beer finishes clean but with a warming tinge, from the 9% alcohol, to comfort you on a cold winter’s day.
Grand Teton Growler Giveaway
What better way to kick off the December holiday season than with a Giveaway to sports-glutton.com’s loyal readers?
Grand Teton has graciously offered up one of their stainless steel growler’s to one lucky reader (sorry beer not included, but click here to find out where you can pick up Grand Teton beers). I picked up one of these growlers on my recent visit to the brewery and have honestly found it to be a superior product to the glass versions usually offered by other breweries. Plus why wouldn’t you want to have a growler from the brewery which “reintroduced” this magical transporting vessel for beer into the American way of life?
There are a few ways to win this great prize and each will count as one entry into the giveaway:
- Leave a comment below and/or share your favorite Grand Teton beer.
- Subscribe to Grand Teton Brewery’s monthly newsletter by clicking here and leave a comment below stating that you have done so.
- Follow Grand Teton Brewery on Twitter, again leaving a comment below that you have done so.
- Either like or leave a comment Grand Teton’s website’s Coming Home Ale post by clicking here.
The winner will be determined by random.org and announced on next week’s Thirsty Thursday post on December 10th (eligible to US residents only…apologies to our international friends).
Many thanks to Grand Teton Brewery for providing the growler and best of luck to all our readers in the giveaway!

This was one of best experiences at a brewery, the scenery and people are excellent. Beer-wise, tough to beat the Lost Continent! I am a big fan of the stainless steel canteens, I use my Stone one almost everyday at work for water and occasional fills when I get to Escondido.
Thanks for the giveaway!
My fave GT beer is Bitch Creek.
I also signed up for the newsletter and like the Coming Home Ale website. Thanks again!
Signed up for newsletter. Bitch Creek ESB is my fav!
Subscribed to their news letter and my favorite brew by Grand Teton is their Pursuit of Hoppiness. I can’t get POH where I live in Ny but when I go home to VT I stop in MA to grab as many bottles as I can. Grand Teton is very underrated and they make superb brews!
Sweetgrass APA.

Already a member of the newsletter…love the new growler!
Grand Teton is my favorite Idaho brewery and I love their beers. One of my faves of all time with their Sheep Eater Scotch style ale. Man I wish I have more of that! Cheers.
For a second there I thought you were violating some interstate commerce laws. I already stalk, ahem, subscribe to your page, but I’ll like Grand Tetons too. I shared this on Facebook too.
I love GTBC, especially Bitch Creek. I am thrilled to get Lost Continent here in MA, but I want other beers too!
I love Grand Teton, and especially Pursuit of Hoppiness. Best beer EVER!!!
Been a Grand Teton fan for years. Gotta give props to the Trout Hop, Coming Home Holiday, and Bitch Creek. Just send that growler my way.
Also just looked up the history of the growler in my Oxford Companion to Beer. Does this stainless steel vessel growl like the old ones?
Love the Bitch Creek ESB and the Sweetgrass American Pale Ale. Had a tour in June, love your beers and your sodas!
Oops. I meant love THEIR beers!
Oh, what a fun giveaway! I’ll have to get my hubby some Grand Teton beer so he can decide his favorite
And I’m now following them on Twitter~
Following on Twitter. Thanks for the give away.
Sweet giveaway! Growlers are the best invention ever.
I’ve never tried a Grand Teton beer, but I think I’d start with the Grand Saison.
I’m going to have to have my husband check out this post. He loves craft beer!
I cannot believe the name of the brewery is Grand Teton. Very Belgian

And I cannot imagine a beer to go with crème brûlée! I cannot participate in the giveaway, but at least I have learnt a new English word, i.e. growler
Very interesting post and the beers look delicious (in spite of the name I would be ashamed to order everywhere apart from Belgium).
I’ve never heard of Grand Teton before this but now I’m going to have to search them out. I guess that’s what happens when you live on the wrong side of the Appalachians.
I really wanted to like the Howling Wolf for reasons that ranged from wolves to music, but it’s too dark for me so if I had to do a blind choice, it would be the Old Faithful Ale. I’m a beer wimp. I like good beer, but I need it smooth and light.
Nice! I have known their beers since back when they were the Otto Brothers, from my yearly pilgrimage to Jackson, WY (starting when I was in school at Missoula in ’97). My overindulgence in Bitch Creek and Sweetgrass (as well as Snake River’s offerings) has more than once required me to bring a bottle of Pepto to the hill the next morning.
The Coming Home sounds tasty. And I like how the stainless steel growler gives a big middle finger to the sun’s harmful rays.
Cool giveaway!
I’m totally bummed out that the beer isn’t included Jed. But the container is really cool.
I’ve had the Black Cauldron and the Old Faithful brews. Both were pretty good. I doubt I’ll make it to Idaho for a brewry tour, but I’ll keep a lookout for the coming home brew in my local bevmo!
Beer not included?! Aw, comon now. Ha, I kid. That stainless steel can is pretty cool. That beer sounds great!

Already following on Twitter — now the newsletter. OB1 is still my go-to recommendation for tourists. Everyone loves it.
I’m a dork — Sweetgrass is my fav…sorry
Love your beers and sodas! Wished I had picked up one of these cool growlers when we were there in June. Happy Holidays!
My favorite ever was Sweetgrass on tap at the Jackson Hole Music Festival back in 08. Perfect combination of great beer/great atmosphere…
Now following you on Twitter and signed up for the newsletter. When are you going to do another beer pairing dinner. We went to the one at Dornan’s years ago and it was better than any wine pairing dinner I’ve ever been to!
can’t wait to fill my growler with coming home ale!

I also signed up for the newsletter! Thanks a bunch!
Love the Trout Hop black IPA.
We’re thankful to have family that lives near the brewery! It gives us a good excuse to visit.
I signed up for the newsletter and followed y’all on twitter …. so pick me even if the beer isn’t included!
I’m interviewing for a job in your part of the world, so we might well be moving thereabouts – can’t wait to check out your products up close and personal! I’ve subscribed to your newsletter, have followed you on Twitter, and have liked and commented on your website!
I love Teton Ale, and though they apparently don’t make it anymore, Huckleberry Wheat was always a favorite. Still drink my pints from a Teton Ale glass, and look forward to drinking some from a new growler soon…
Oh, and I just signed up for the newsletter…
Signed up for the news letter!! See you guys around Christmas!!
Wish you guys would make the Oud Bruin again… so good!
Grtand Teton Trout hop… Surely a favorite beer of all time.
The Old Faithful Ale has to be my favorite brew from Grand Teton, being that Old Faithful is a sweet 30-mile drive away in Yellowstone National Park. Sweetgrass APA is also a favorite!
also just started following Grand Teton Brewing Company on Twitter!
Fav is Old Faithful Ale. Buy Idaho!
Just subscribed to your newsletter. Visited you in 2010 and recently enjoyed a bottle of Wake Up Call Imperial Coffee Porter via my son in Minnesota. Hope that your beer is eventually available here in the east but if I win the growler, I am heading out there to fill it up. Happy Holidays!
Signed up for the newsletter. We love Bitch Creek and Sweetgrass!
Doing all of the above right now! Love it!
