Thirsty Thursday: The Glutton Gin Fizz
Whether it was Turkey Day, Christmas, or Easter there was always one adult libation my Grandfather prepared as a starter for family members during holidays and that was the Gin Fizz. A simple concoction of gin, frozen lemonade, half & half, and ice this drink goes down easier than water while guaranteeing everyone is in a cheerful and festive mood. A word of warning though, the potency and bliss of this Fizz will not materialize until half way through your second glass. So be careful how many glasses you hand out to certain family members like Uncle Norm.
And could there be a better way to ring in holidays than with a visit from the Fairy Hobmother who found me over at one of my favorite blogs, From The Bartolini Kitchens? The generous Fairy Hobmother awarded the sports-glutton.com family with an Amazon Gift Card and she’s looking to make other bloggers’ holiday wishes come true. To be considered, just leave a comment below and be sure to check out this as well as the other great products at Appliances Online.
We hope you enjoy the Fizzes!
The Necessities:
- 5 cups crushed ice (roughly)
- 4-5 oz of gin (we prefer Tanqueray ”Rangpur” Gin for this concoction)
- 6 oz (1/2 a container) of lemonade frozen concentrate
- 1/2 cup of half and half
- 1 egg white
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients into a blender.
- Blend until ice has been completely crushed and mixture is smooth and thick.

I’m almost strictly a beer guy, but in the rare instance where I stray from beer I get gin & tonic. This sounds good, and I might have to try it sometime. Is this a common drink that a bartender would know how to make?
Also, sign me up for that gift card giveaway!
If you like Gin then you’ll love this drink. I’ve never seen it made properly/like this in any bar, so expect a variation of the drink if you order it at your local watering hole.
Ooh, this sounds like my kind of cocktail..yum!!! And congrats on your visit from the Fairy Hobmother! Merry Christmas and thanks for all your support this year~
Thanks Liz! Merry Christmas to you and yours….and thank you for yoru support as well!
Yum! Gin was an acquired taste for me…very strong flavors but so good. Fizzy gin sounds really great!
The Gin is so smooth in this you won’t even know it there.
OK, I need to get on the egg white bandwagon. At least a certain woman I’m married to keeps telling me that. This looks amazing!
Don’t fear the slime.
Sounds good! I’ll have to try it!
That looks like a great drink for this time of year but yes, I would have to sip slowly or be an embarrassment. Have a Merry Christmas xx
Merry Christmas to you as well Charlie!
This drink could prove to be very dangerous in a party setting. That milk camouflages its potency until it’s too late. Well, just ask Uncle Norm. If you wish to avoid concerns dealing with raw egg, you can now get “pasteurized” eggs. They come in a a regular egg carton but the shells have been zapped, rendering them salmonella-free.
Congrats on receiving the Hobmother’s gift and thanks, Jed, for the shout-out.
Are pasteurized eggs a sin?
That drinks looks and sounds like it would go down sooooo eazzzzy! I would probably be the one curled up in the corner of the couch on any holiday! Congratulations, so glad the Hobmother’s gift landed in your lap, Jed!
A great time to be visited by the Fairy Hobmother. Congratulations and enjoy. My husband has enjoyed this drink when we were at Brennen’s in New Orleans for brunch. Now I have a recipe.
Thanks Karen and I hope you enjoy the recipe.
wow, i can seriously make this drink but with fresh cream, I LOVE milky drinks! and wonderful that Mistress hob found you.,. that is a joy! c
You’re the lucky one having fresh cream available.
When I lived in a decidedly colder weather climate, we came up with our own heavy-duty winter booze concoction (for those of you looking to chase away a chill)
You’ll need:
1 cup milk (whole works best, I never said this was healthy)
1 cup Irish cream
1 cup peppermint schnapps (100 proof works best)
2 ounces Kahlua
2 ounces chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon sugar
Place all ingredients in a covered container
Mix well and serve chilled
That could be one tasty concoction and one that I’ll be making. Many thanks for sharing the recipe JW. cheers!
I have almost missed this one! It looks luscious!
).
I have never had a drink with egg whites, but I have an old American book with cocktail recipes and lost of them are with egg whites (it was probably edited before the FDA existed
Sorry, of course I meant “lots of them”
