A Failed Experiment and Glutton Travels Preview
Rarely have the words normal and my brain ever been spoken in the same sentences. But this is something that I embrace, mainly because I often use my “unique” perspective to create some glorious gluttonous foods. Usually I get an idea in my head, run with it, and everything turns out to be pretty damn good.
However, there are times when my mind takes me down a dark path that produces a recipe that should have never been or I create something that just is well not what was intended. Case in point this bundt cake.
Now I literally had no intention of posting this, but the image turned out to be so tempting that I thought why not (remember that is our family motto).
Basically this is chocolate bundt cake with drowned in melted milk chocolate, caramel, and topped with crushed graham crackers. Nothing truly unique, but as you can imagine the bundt was scrumptious…just not what I was attempting to create (you’ll have to guess the ingredient(s) I failed to mention to figure out what my warped mind was trying to do).
So because it was good I’ll share with you the ridiculously simple formula for this chocolate caramel bundt, but before I do so I’ll leave you with a teaser for next week’s edition of Glutton Travels.
The bags are packed and I’ll be heading up to Sheridan, WY to tour and partake in the Friday festivities at Black Tooth Brewing Company. Black Tooth is a favorite watering hole for locals and has a unique partnership with a local food truck which provides the good eats for the brewery’s patrons. Check back next Friday for the review and recap of my gluttonous travels.
Oh and here’s that recipe…
The Necessities:
- Chocolate cake mix
- Milk chocolate chips (melted)
- Caramel (melted)
- Graham Crackers (crushed)
Directions:
- hmmmmm…follow the instructions on the box of the cake mix and bake in a bundt pan.
- Carefully remove the cake from the pan and dump obscene amounts of the remaining necessities on top.
- Delish.

Super yum.
where’s the “failed” part???
now that’s one show stopper for a quick and easy dessert!!
Ya, not a total fail as it was still very tasty, but just not exactly what I was shooting for.
I’m not one to bake much but this s one recipe even I can make. The only problem I foresee is getting the cake out of the pan. I’ve only attempted 2 bundt cakes. The first had to be dug out of the pan. When the 2nd cake went down the same path, it and the pan ended up in the trash. This cake is making me think it’s time to get a new bundt pan. It just looks so good!
I’m thinking I need to send you a new bundt pan with a specialty kit so you won’t have any sticking problems.
DIVINE!!!! What a tremendous photograph and marvelous mix of flavors!
Thanks Tin Man!
That does look like a very delicious cake with plenty for the sweet tooth. I love your photo! xx
I’m sorry Jed, but is hard for me to believe that this bund cake isn’t delicious, not only for the photo (stunning) but also because one of your creations and you, my friend, never disappoint.
Enjoy your trip
Thanks so much Giovanna and yes it still was delicious in spite of not be the perfection I was seeking.
I think I just licked my monitor! Wow! What a great idea you had, and you weren’t kidding about the pic, it is beautiful! Really need to try this.
You won’t be disappointed.
You could always use this pic for the cover of your baking cookery book one day… scrumity!
Mandy
Thanks for the compliment Mandy. Hope you had a great weekend!
Ok, you need to share the ingredient that failed. Bacon? hmmmm, I’m drawing a total blank now. The cake is gorgeous though!
Ah the first inquiry….what if I said one of the ingredients was marshmallow. Any guess what I was attempting?
I’m betting that would have been a smores variation. Sounds like you totally pulled off a great cake even without the marshmallows. Have a fabulous week, Jed!
Yup it was a smore variation. The Marshmallows were actually in the bundt, but they disintegrated right after being removed from the oven. Booo!
For a failed experiment, that sure looks mighty mighty tasty (+ wonderfully gluttonous.) =) i’m curious what the failed aspect was! Reading the above comments, if it was marshmallow, i’m guessing you were going for a s’mores bundt – which is flippin’ genius, by the way!
Thanks Amy! I thought is was a good idea as well, but there is plenty of refinement needed. Stay tuned!
I wish my failed experiments looked this good.
All you were missing was some toasted marshmallow cream on top.
I was hoping the marshmallows inside would have survived.
Well you just make sure that you BRUSH your teeth thoroughly whilst visiting the Black Tooth Thingy! I think I may join John in buying one of these pans, this did look good!! have a good time.. c
No bundt pan C??? It’s a must!
it looks amazing! Hey great minds have good ideas and bad ideas- it is what keeps us thinking- am i right?
Exactly!
Looks divine!!! Whether it’s what you wanted or not, it sure looks delicious! A successful fail
Thanks Stefanie!
