Super Bowl Pick-Em Contest

The 2012 NFL season kicks off next Wednesday night with the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants hosting the supposedly ever perennial Super Bowl contenders Dallas Cowboys.

To celebrate the return to normality of football we’re offering up the 1st annual sports-glutton.com Super Bowl Pick-Em Contest where the winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card and 2 sports-glutton.com t-shirts.

The rules couldn’t be easier:

  1. Leave a comment prior to September 5th, 2012 stating which two teams you think will be facing off in Super Bowl XLVII (not the winner).
  2. Additionally, tell us what your favorite food(s) and libation(s) are that you enjoy while watching football.

Super Bowl Pick-Em ContestAnd if you’re not a football fan, just pick a team from the NFC and AFC (click here to see a list of teams) and share with us your favorite food ingredient . I mean it’s free money and sports-glutton.com swag so why not??

Also be sure to spread the word about the contest amongst your friends, mentioning of course what an gluttonously good website sports-glutton.com is.

Unfortunately we’re not made of money, so in the case that more than one person has correctly predicted which two teams will be playing in the Super Bowl a single winner will be selected using random.org.  Additionally, because of shipping costs, the contest is only open to residents of the United States and Canada (apologies to all our other readers).

Finally be sure to check back throughout the football season for our weekly articles on college and the NFL.

  • Thursdays- Four Downs: College Football Preview and Picks
  • Fridays-The all new Friday Football Fix, previewing a key NFL match-up along with food and libation recommendations to enjoy while watching the weekend’s games.

Best of luck to everyone!

Well, you will have to count me out of the contest; however, I do have a cooking blog http://www.Chef-Emil.com and here are my Superbowl recipes: http://chef-emil.com/category/recipes/super-bowl-foods/

  2. Stacie says:

I’ll pick the Broncos versus the Packers. My favorite food to eat is bacon wrapped grilled jalepenos stuffed with cream cheese, washed down with an ice-cold Stella. =)

  3. Jacob says:

My favorite food is cheese fries and my Super Bowl XLVII prediction is the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots.

Awesome giveaway! This is a hard one, but i’m going to go with the Green Bay Packers vs. the Baltimore Ravens. =) And my favorite food + drink to enjoy while watching football? i absolutely love a hearty chili served with cheese + fritos, with some sort of cocktail. Bourbon + gingergale is always tasty. =)

  5. RedRaider says:

    Niners vs Bronws.
Chips and Queso and a cold Coors Light(s). Quite generic, but very good. I eat so much of the chips and queso that I need a light beer or it just doesnt work.

  6. cecilia says:

Ok.. the master f the house says salsa and corn chips and he thinks the bears and the ravens, Old Style beer (don’t judge) but he did say check to see what chgjohn has said, whew, such a lot to remember.. thank you .. awesome.. c

  7. Blog Surface says:

Yesss! Makes us believe the NFL is right around the corner. Hmm, Ok Jed, we’ll go with the Patriots (AFC) vs. Eagles (NFC). We tend to hate the prediction game because injuries, etc. happen all the time, but that’s our two picks.

In terms of what we do during games, only the two best things in the world. Eating everything in the fridge and drinking all the beer we can! Good luck to your contest!

  8. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says:

I’ll take Baltimore and Green Bay. :)

I like chips with homemade salsa (extra spicy) and guac. Plus a craft brew, of course.

  9. ChgoJohn says:

Sorry, John & Celi. The Bears’ offensive line is still a problem. I’m going with the Green Bay Packers and the Houston Texans. I can assure you, picking The Pack leaves a real foul taste in this Bears fan’s mouth. It will take some buffalo wings, a platter of oven-toasted nachos, and a few bottles of Stella Artois to cleanse my palate.

  10. Eva says:

I’ll have to go with John’s picks as I have no clue when it comes to sports: Green Bay Packers and the Houston Texans. But I did get the low-down on how the scoring works…hope I can remember come February when the super bowl happens!
For food and libations, I’ll go with super thin grilled pizza with a simple tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese, and basil, nachos (healthy un-fried kind) with guacamole and Corona. And let’s not forget popcorn for snacking.

  11. WSW says:

I’m going way out on a limb here and predicting Eli and those #$%@ Giants against my New England Patriots — maybe the third time’s a charm. Or a CHAHM as we say up at Foxborough.

As for game sustenance, I’m going with the family favorite: finger sandwiches (http://kitchenslattern.com/2012/02/03/finger-rolls-the-superbowl-party-must/), salt and vinegar chips and a rack or two of whatever’s on sale down at the packy. ;)

  13. Bobby eaton says:

Patriots vs. San francisco in the super bowl and favorite food for the game is cheese dip, tortilla chips and fajitas.

  14. Jay says:

New England and San Francisco for the Super Bowl.

As for food, always have to go with chicken wings. Any kind will do but more than likely they are covered in spicy garlic sauce with a few pale Ale Beers on the side, usually Boulevard Pale Ale brewed in KC (it’s a regional thing!).

  15. Ryan says:

I gonna go way out on a limb and say Eagles vs. Texans.

Favorite food is sausage and onions on a french roll with spicy brown mustard. That just feels like football. You have to wash it down with some home brew!

  16. Sportschump says:

    Alright….

A lot of people here have already taken the Packers so that makes me want to go off the board with a surprise pick.

I’ll tell you what, since no one else has picked ‘em, I’m gonna take the Atlanta Falcons. Why not, right?

AFC? Hmmmm…. I don’t see any Broncos picks yet. Heck, if Timmy Tebow took these guys to the playoffs last year, imagine what Happy Feet can do.

Re: Food and drink, that all depends. I’ll either start off the 1 o’clock games with a bloody mary, not too spicy, celery salt, creole seasoning on the rim, garnished with genoa salami, olive and/or jalapeno for good measure. That or champagne and cranberry juice or perhaps some mango or peach juice. By the time the later games are on, I’ve moved on to Jack and Coke.

Food? Nothing too greasy but finger foods for sure. The less commitment, the better. Wings but only if they’re grilled. Nachos, preferably with some lean ground beef and none of that Velveeta crap they serve at most sports bars. I mean, they have head of cholesterol., haven’t they?

  17. JL says:

For a prediction I’m going with the Packers and Texans.
As for food and drink, its one thing and it covers both……..A hearty Bloody Mary.

  18. anthony cotignola says:

San Fransisco 49ers vs Denver Broncos in a Super Bowl 24 rematch.

My wife makes me daffodil dip in a bread bowl. I usually finish that and another loaf of bread during a game.

To drink, I keep it simple with a beer or a Malibu & pineapple juice.

  19. Clarence Chance says:

look at the teams next to the trophy!
