Thirsty Thursday Balvenie Caribbean Cask Aged 14 Years IMG_4303

We in the Glutton household have a strong appreciation of good dark rum.  It’s the reason more than a few of our recipes like Tropical “Canonball” Meatballs or Panettone French Toast make use of this molasses derived libation.  And it’s also the reason that I continually find myself enjoying Balvenie’s 14 year old scotch, one that attributes its refined and smooth character to the blissful flavors found in rum.

The process is a simple one: Balvenie single malt whiskey is matured in traditional oak casks for 14 years and finished in casks that have previously been filled with a select blend of West Indian rums.  The result is a Balvenie quality scotch that has been rounded and elevated because of its interaction with rum. It’s a winner for commoners and pirates alike.

Here’s my complete review:

Balvenie Caribbean Cask Aged 14 Years
Sweet toffee, fruit, and a touch of spice on the nose leads an oaked palate that ebbs into a sweet vanilla that expands across the back half.  Balanced, smooth, and incredibly appealing to scotch drinkers and those looking to explore this spirit.

Retails around $60

Although I am not much of a scotch drinker, I think my better half would really enjoy this drink.
